It may seem counter-intuitive that I have a section dedicated to helping other writers on my website. You may be thinking, “Gee, isn’t that like helping the competition?” Well, it’s not and here’s why.
1. If you are new to freelance writing, you may not realize just how many opportunities there are out there. Trust us, there are a lot. So many, in fact, that if I spent all day, everyday applying for jobs, I still wouldn’t even scratch the surface. Not to mention that I’d never do that because, well, I’d never get any actual writing done!
2. I also understand the writing market. All writers come from vastly different backgrounds and this impacts style, voice, and content knowledge. In all likelihood, the areas in which you are most qualified to write are not the same as mine and vise-versa. So why not share the love?
What I’m saying is this: freelance writing is a booming business, there are thousands of jobs out there, and the potential for direct competition is limited.
But it’s more than that. I also want to help you make your dreams a reality. “Why?” you ask? Because I’m just cool like that.
Seriously, though, I want to help.
I am a natural-born educator, involved in education all my life. I was trying to teach my three-year-old neighbor how to sound out words before I could read. Aside from writing, education is my greatest passion but I also know how difficult and frustrating it can be. Luckily, I was blessed with a few amazing teachers along the way who taught me to persevere through hard times and never give up.
I want to do the same for you.
I’m not selling anything here, just offering some great advice from one writer to another.
